Tamil superstar Suriya’s fantasy action drama, Kanguva, recorded an ordinary start at the box office on November 14. The film’s early morning shows (4 am in Kerala and 4.30 am shows in Andhra Pradesh) were delayed by nearly an hour due to technical issues. Despite the initial delay, Kanguva is said to have raked in nearly Rs 40 crore globally. The film, directed by Siva, received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike.
Early estimates suggest that Kanguva earned nearly Rs 40 crore gross worldwide. The film was released in theatres on November 14 on a record number of screens across the globe.
According to tracking website Sacnilk, Kanguva is said to have earned approximately Rs 22 crore nett at the domestic box office on November 14. This is quite ordinary for a film of this magnitude. The Tamil version of the film recorded an occupancy of 37.25 per cent on November 14.
Prior to the release, Suriya and the makers of Kanguva aggressively promoted the film in Mumbai targeting the Hindi belt for a pan-India success. However, the Hindi occupancy was just 11.47 per cent on November 14. With the film receiving a lukewarm response, it is highly possible for the film to fall flat in the North belt.
The advance booking in Kerala started on a great note. According to Friday Matinee, Kanguva reportedly earned over Rs 4 crore in Kerala.
